2024 Bike Hoboken Traffic Injury Report

Bike Hoboken completed an in-depth analysis of all Hoboken Police Department traffic injury records from 2023 to 2024. Our findings reveal a concerning 52% surge in crash-related injuries within Hoboken, rising from 144 in 2023 to 219 in 2024. This stark increase significantly outpaces already concerning statewide trends, where New Jersey saw a 13% rise in overall traffic fatalities and a 33% increase in pedestrian deaths during this time period.

Key findings from the report include:

  • All road user types experienced an increase in injuries sustained, with a 43% increase in motor vehicle injuries, 50% increase in pedestrian injuries, and an 86% increase in cyclist injuries.

  • Injuries were concentrated within a small portion of our street grid - five Hoboken streets accounted for 58% of all crash injuries, with just 11 intersections accounting for 30% of all injury locations.

  • Pedestrians and cyclists sustained a disproportionate amount of injuries, having only been involved in 29% of injury-related crashes, yet sustaining 49% of all injuries
